Tigers fall to UK; Coach Jones applaudes effort

LSU men's basketball falls on road Saturday to the Kentucky Wildcats 75-70.

The tigers (10-7, 1-5 SEC) trailed by 11 at halftime and got  within one position late before dropping their fifth SEC contest of the season.

Sophomore forward Johnny O'Bryant tied a career high with 21 points. He added 12 rebounds in route to his fifth double double of the season. Kentucky was lead by Alex Poythress' double double of 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Coach Johnny Jones was proud of how hard his players fought. He added applauded O'Bryant's aggressiveness to get to the basket.

"They're competitive, they are rediculously shorthanded and still competitive," Charles Hanagriff said when discussing the effort he saw from the tigers with Jimmy Ott and Derek Ponamsky on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge's "Sports Today."

The thought seems to be that coach Jones just needs more time to produce a team that can be competitive in the SEC. "It's a mulligan year," Jimmy Ott said.

Next up for the tigers they will return home Wednesday to host #22 Missouri. The tip off is set for 7 p.m. and can be in Baton Rouge on Eagle 98.1 FM.
