Sunday's Oscars has LA ties

HOLLYWOOD -- Oscar Sunday is just about here and Louisiana has plenty of nominations to be proud of. Louisiana Office of Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly said he's especially excited about two movies that were filmed here and nominated for Best Picture. The 85th Academy Awards ceremony airs Sunday at 6 on ABC.

"Django Unchained" which is up for Best Picture is Quentin Tarantino's latest movie and was filmed primarily in New Orleans. Also up for Hollywood's most important prize and filmed here is "Beasts of the Southern Wild", starring Quvenzhani Wallis of Houma who is up for Best Actress. Stelly said this movie is all Louisiana.

"Louisiana continues to show the nation that we are truly Hollywood South." He said many movies that were filmed here received nominations in notable Oscar categories. "Louisiana has a deep talent pool as was proven by Shreveport's Moonbot Studios who picked up an Oscar last year."
