LSU releases details of Cameron salary package
"Cam" snaps a million dollar picture
BATON ROUGE -- The Tigers' new offensive coordinator will net over a million dollars next year according to figures LSU's Athletic Department released Wednesday morning. Pee wee football it ain't.
Malcolm "Cam" Cameron will earn $600,000 this coming season, then his annual salary will leap to $1.3 million in 2014. A modest increase to $1.5 million comes in 2015.
The year-to-year increase in salary is not uncommon for top-tier collegiate coaches according to one former LSU player we know.
"College football is an arms race," according to Gordy Rush, General Manager of Louisiana Daily who is also sideline reporter for the LSU Sports Radio Network. "To keep up with the Joneses, LSU has to pay what the Joneses are making."
Cameron comes to LSU after his last stint with the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL.
The deal must still be stamped with a seal approval from the LSU's Board of Supervisors, which is expected.
