Leesville concerned about Fort Polk troop reduction
The Leesville officials are concerned about a possible reduction in troops and employees at Fort Polk.
The city of Leesville is concerned about the Army's recent assessment of a possible huge troop reduction at Fort Polk. Leesville Mayor Robert Rose is angry. "The Army's assessment of Polk said the fort is old, inadequate and in need of upgrades; seemingly unaware of its own improvements there."
Mayor Rose said the Army's proposal to eliminate over 5000 soldiers and civilian employees at Fort Polk will be disastrous for local business, and both local and state income and sales tax collections.
"Reducing forces at Fort Polk will have tremendous negative impact on the economy of Vernon Parish, Leesville, the region and indeed the whole state." He said citizens that share Leesville's concern can do something about it by visiting the city's website, LeesvilleLA.gov
